Hello Feet!

Last week was National Foot Week, and what better time to give our amazing feet the attention they deserve?

In every Pilates class, I make space for a little foot love, and I’ve become a big fan of MELT Foot Treatments for that very reason. They help us reconnect with the foundation of the body in a way that creates ripple effects all the way up to the head.

Here’s why:

When you work on your feet in MELT, you’re doing so much more than pressing on pressure points. You’re:

  1. Helping your brain better understand where your joints are (hello, better body awareness).
  2. Activating your myofascial meridians (your body’s internal highways of communication).
  3. Influencing everything from your posture to your stress levels.
When you apply gentle pressure to specific points in the MELT foot treatment, you’re doing more than just releasing tension. These points correspond to key joints within the structure of the foot and connect to other areas of the body through myofascial meridians—those incredible connective tissue pathways that link everything from your toes to your head. These same lines also carry energetic signals, meaning that releasing the feet can have a powerful impact on other regions like the lower back, pelvis, and diaphragm. It’s a simple practice with surprisingly far-reaching effects.

Why Gait (and Feet!) Really Matter

As we age, many of us notice changes in how we walk—maybe we take shorter steps, feel a bit less stable, or start to feel aches in our knees or hips. That’s because our gait—our pattern of walking—relies on the whole body working together. And when our feet aren’t moving well, the rest of the body starts to compensate.

That’s why in Pilates, we often take time to explore and improve our walking pattern. And when we MELT barefoot, we help the body reconnect to that natural rhythm. MELT barefoot improves proprioception—our awareness of where our body is in space—which helps us move more smoothly, confidently, and with better alignment.

It’s all about restoring that natural connection, so the body feels more supported, mobile, and balanced with every step.
